What is a Virtual Domain?

A Virtual Domain means having your own domain name (http://www.your-name.com) without having to install expensive server hardware and software. With a Virtual Domain, you utilize our server's storage space, however you are still professionally represented via your own personal Internet web address domain name (www.your-name.com) and by your own personal e-mail address domain name (you@your-name.com).

You should check  "WHOIS" service to make sure that your desired domain name is available.

Are there any contracts to sign or minimum service length requirements?

No. You can stay with acehostnet.com as long as YOU are happy with our service. You are free to move your domain to another service provider any time you wish. If you have prepaid for service, the remaining balance will be refunded to you, either by check or credited back to your credit card.

Is my bandwidth traffic per month enough for my site?

Most domains never exceed 200 megs of traffic per month, but let's put it in real terms. On a 300mb web hosting account we allow you 200 megs per DAY of traffic. 200 megs = 204,800 kilobytes. For a web page that takes up say 48 kilobytes of space on our server, the page would have to be accessed 4,266 times per day, or 128,000 times per month to reach the limit. If you go over the "free" limit, you will be notified by email that your site is exceeding the traffic limits before we begin to charge you for additional traffic.

What kind of servers do you use, and what about bandwidth (speed)?

All computer systems are custom-build on location providing enhanced levels of control, flexibility and the ability to remotely anticipate and resolve problems before they affect your service. Key components are:

  • Pentium  processors 1.4 GB or better

  • 1000 MB RAM minimum configuration

Our computers are Pentium based dual pros, running Apache over Linux. Apache responds to web page fetch requests from remote browsers while Linux is one of several variants of the Unix operating system.

Can I access my domain address with or without the "www"?

Yes, you will be able to access the domain address with or without the "www" in front of the domain name. Example: [http://www.your-name.com] or [http://your-name.com] is acceptable, whichever you prefer.

Do you offer dial-up Internet access?

No, you will need local Internet access in order to maintain your web site and retrieve email addressed to your site.

Do you handle the domain registration process?

Yes. We will contact the Domain Registrar once your account is activated to request either a new domain name registration or a domain name modification (trasferring an existing domain to our servers). Please DO NOT submit a registration or modification template as this will only delay the process.

Can I transfer an existing domain name to your servers?

Yes, just be sure to specify that you are requesting a transfer and NOT a new domain. You should keep the service with your current provider while waiting for the Registrar to complete the transfer process. We will provide you with a temporary IP address so you can mirror the site on our server. All email and web pages will still be accessed from your current site. When the Registrar announces the completion of the transfer there is a 72 hour propagation period where visitors could go to either site. At the end of the 72 hours you should contact your previous host to have them delete the old domain from their records and update their DNS record. If you use this same provider for your Internet access you will not be able to access your domain site until they update their DNS.

How long does it take before my domain name is active?

Once the Registrar announces that your domain name has been registered (or transferred, if applicable), it usually takes about 72-hours before it is active. All Internet providers must update their records (DNS tables) to reflect the new site's location.

How do I transfer files to my web site ?

Files must be transferred to the web server via File Transport Protocol (FTP) or Telnet. If you need FTP, telnet, mail, or other Internet software, visit cnet.shareware.com. cnet.shareware.com is a great source for the latest Internet applications with ratings and reviews to help you decide which application is best suited for your needs. Also check out our online manual to see how easy it is to use the most popular FTP clients. We also provide frontpage extensions which allows you to upload files and manage your website. In addition you may use your on line web control panel to upload files. For further details regarding uploading files click here.

Will I have unlimited access to update my pages ?

You have unlimited access via FTP 24 hours a day. As such, you can create and maintain your web pages on your own computer and upload files to your web site at your leisure.

Will I have my own cgi-bin?

Yes. Each domain has its own cgi-bin and you will have complete access to it. We provide many customized and already configured cgi scripts, and you are free to change them, or add any others that you wish.

Can I use my account for commercial purposes ?

Yes, you can use your account for commercial purposes. The World Wide Web has become the most efficient and cost-effective means of making information available to the users of the Internet community and we encourage our customers to utilize such an enormous medium.

How long does it take to set up a new account ?

New accounts are generally set up within 24 hours from the time we receive your order payment and confirmation documents. Once an account is set up an activation notice will be sent to you via email including your user-ID, password, and FTP hostname. You can begin uploading files to your new web site immediately. Domain account users will be given a temporary URL to access their site via the web prior to the completion of either domain registration or domain modification.

Can I subdivide my space and resell it?

Yes, we do allow you to create subdirectories which you can use to offer friends or clients space as long as its within our policy guidelines. Traffic limitations of 3 Gigs per month apply to your domain as a whole when using your account this way. You can also request additional FTP accounts with limited access to a specific directory for a small additional setup charge.

Can I register additional domains to point to a subdirectory within my main domain?

Yes, you may. The domain pointers gives the ability to redirect parked domains to subdirectories.

Can I have additional domains pointing to the same main page as my main domain?

Yes. This is a great way to expand the marketing of your present business.

Are third level domains available (anyname.mydomain.com)?

Yes, We can give you a third level domain name such as yourname.acehostnet.com or if you have an existing domain with us anyname.yourdomain.com. The packages are the same as the one posted for normal domains, the advantage to these is Registrar registration is not needed. This means no further registration fees.

Can you host domains with country extensions (example: mydomain.de or mydomain.com.sg)?

Yes, the hosting package and pricing is the same.
